What to Wear/Bring

Band Camp will be hot so here are a few things to consider.

  1. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be marching A LOT, and on pavement, which will be hot. Wear sneakers with comfortable socks. A change of socks midday can help give you that extra energy for the afternoon session.

  1. Wear shorts and a loose, comfortable shirt. Even if the weather seems a little cool in the morning, it will get warmer and you will be marching. Consider bringing an extra t-shirt on hot days.

  1. Bring lots of water. In the summer heat, it goes without saying you have to stay hydrated. Bring a large thermos of water. Don't be afraid to bring an extra water bottle. If you run out of ice, the ice machine in the cafeteria or the gym is usually accessible for refills.

  1. Don't forget lunch! While dinner will be provided, lunch (and snacks) are your responsibility. Make sure you bring a well-balanced meal so you don't feel carb-heavy in the heat.

  1. Bring a ball cap or wide brimmed hat and sunglasses. Keeping the sun off of your head and out of your eyes will go a long way towards protecting your skin and keeping you comfortable.

  1. Be sure to use sunscreen. Apply sunscreen before you arrive in the morning and bring more with you to apply regularly throughout the day. Nothing is more miserable than getting sunburned and having to continue to be in the sun.

  1. Consider getting a cooling towel. Using a cooling towel can be a welcome relief on a hot day.

  1. Pack bug spray. The mosquitos are not usually too bad but when you are practicing on the field at dusk, it can get a little buggy.

  1. Most importantly, deodorant is your friend! If it's hot and sticky, you don't want to be the one that stands out in the crowd.
